Each year, the HOKA 5K brings the top high school cross-country athletes to San Diego’s Morley Field to compete for the title of the fastest runner in the nation. This prestigious event isn’t just a race—it’s a showcase of pure speed, endurance, and competition at the highest level. With athletes pushing their limits on one of the most historic courses in the country, capturing the energy and precision of the event requires a production team just as fast and dialed in as the runners themselves.

For the 2024 HOKA 5K, Hildreth Media worked alongside Awaze Media, seamlessly integrating into their production team to deliver a flawless live broadcast. As the technical director and engineering lead, Hildreth Media ensured that every element—from graphics and video playback to wireless video transmission—worked together to create a smooth, high-quality viewing experience.

One of the most critical aspects of this production was managing the wireless video signal for the lead camera vehicle. This camera, driving just ahead of the runners, was the only way to capture real-time race leaders at key points along the course. A strong, uninterrupted signal was essential to ensuring viewers never lost sight of the action, and Hildreth Media made sure this feed remained rock-solid throughout the event.

In addition to video coverage, integrating timing and scoring into the live broadcast was a top priority. Hildreth Media ensured that audiences watching from around the country could track runners' speeds, splits, and official placements as they happened—bringing an extra level of insight and excitement to the race.

From providing all engineering and video switching gear to ensuring flawless execution of live graphics and playback, Hildreth Media played a key role in delivering a high-stakes, high-energy production worthy of the fastest young runners in the nation. When every second counts—both on the track and behind the scenes—Hildreth Media is there to make sure the race is seen, experienced, and remembered.
